"Gray Spidermans"

"Gray Spidermans"

Children have this amazing ability to see the world in ways we adults cannot...

They create the most amazing stories from the most seemingly unrelated and minute details...

My 3-year old is no exception.

He left his room around 3:30 one morning to come "sleep" with us...

BIG mistake on my part to ask that last question and invite him to explain what the hell a gray spiderman is at 3:33 in the morning...

Because this kid went on a very articulate rant for about 90 seconds!

As a 6-year member of the parent club, I now feel some moral obligation to at least go and see what this miniature maniac standing at the foot of my bed is talking about...

I'll pay you a million bucks if you can guess what "gray spidermans" really are...

Quick commercial break... did you download your cheat sheet?

These are the EXACT same steps I used to (1) re-energize my career at the time, and (2) gain the confidence needed to make big bold decisions about my future!

Get it! --> Read it! --> Apply it! https://goo.gl/Cca81T

Frikkin shadows!!!!!!!!

This kid disturbed my beauty rest because of some shadows... smh. The only thing I could do was laugh.

It's true that an adult's imagination pales in comparison to that of a child...

But, nonetheless, we sure as hell love to make up stories!

How many of us have gray spidermans at work?

How many of us make up these RIDICULOUS stories and then proceed to carry out a career-long, woe-is-me, the-firm-isn't-on-my-side, always-about-to-cry drama...

All brought on by a misinterpretation of something definitely small and potentially innocent.

Someone getting promoted before you...

Someone being assigned a project you thought you should have been given...

Not being looped in to a conversation...

Not getting the invite to the impromptu drinks with senior managers...

We read into these situations so much and then create stories based on them, which taints the lens through which we experience everything else with that person/group/firm.

From this point forward, I want you to say this to yourself each morning:

(In your best politician's voice)

No. More. Gray. Spidermans!

I'm a big fan of stories...

But if you're going to make something up, you might as well make up a story that actually serves you!

Stay provoked...

P.S.

I decided to "coach" my son through his shadow problem...

And the approach I used, which I'll share in Part 2, will also help the next time you see a gray spiderman at work...

But you must be on my list to read it!
